Richard H. Van Hoesen graduated from Lehigh in 1977 with a bachelor's degree in industrial engineering, and then his M.B.A. from Wharton Graduate School, University of Pennsylvania in 1982.

[edit] Prior Experience

Van Hoesen held senior positions at Sun Microsystems and Teradata before becoming Vice President and Chief Financial Officer for Consilium in October 1994. He worked for the software company until May 1996. He then served as Vice President of Finance and Chief Financial Officer and Treasurer of Wall Data. Inc., another software company, from May 1996 until March 1998.


Until its merger with Intersolv Inc. in 1999, Mr. Van Hoesen served as Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer for Micro Focus PLC. He then continued to serve as Senior Vice President and General Manager of the Micro Focus Division of Merant Inc. (the newly merged company) until January 2000. From February 2000 to January 2003 he served as Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of privately held, XACCT Technologies Ltd. At XACCT, Van Hoesen was responsible for building a public company financial infrastructure and raising over $50 million in private equity.


Mr. Van Hoesen served as Chief Financial Officer of NetIQ Corp., a $265 million revenue software company, beginning on August 30, 2004 and also its Senior Vice President of Finance & Administration starting in May 2005. Mr. Van Hoesen joined NetIQ in February 2003 as Vice President of Finance. He served as Chief Accounting Officer and Senior Vice President of NetIQ Corp., beginning in April 2004 and September 2004, respectively. During his tenure, Mr. Van Hoesen drove the successful implementation of its Sarbanes-Oxley compliant controls environment and numerous operational improvements. He then began his current post in Epocrates in 2006.

On November 16, 2006, Van Hoesen was named Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of Epocrates after twenty-five years of experience in both private and public companies. Epocrates, founded in 1998, is one of the largest networks for health care professionals in which its over 500,000 users can download software onto their mobile devices and gain access to drug, disease, and diagnostic references. The company employs more than 200 workers.


Van Hoesen and his wife, Jill, also a Lehigh graduate in Business and Economics, reside in Saratoga, California.
