Overview

The Lehigh Engineering Heritage Initiative (LEHI) is an online resource of, by, and for Lehigh engineers to recognize the outstanding accomplishments of alumni, faculty, and associates of Lehigh’s engineering program throughout history. As mentioned in the overview, a wiki is a website that allows visitors to add, remove, and otherwise edit and change content.

In the sections below, the basics are covered briefly with little detail. For more information, please review the Beginner's Guide. The remaining sections will help you explore more in depth features and functionality of the LEHI wiki.

Adding Pages

Please see Beginner's Guide.

Editing Pages

Please see Beginner's Guide.

Formatting

Section Headers - To help organize content, separate paragraphs by section headers (such as "Formatting" above). Define a section title by putting it on a new line and surrounding it with "==" as follows:

Heading          ==SECTION HEADING==
Sub-heading    ===SECTION SUB-HEADING===

Continue adding "=" for subsequent sub-headings.

Simple Text Formatting

  • italic
  • bold
  • bold and italic
* ''italic''
* '''bold'''
* '''''bold and italic''''' - Note use of '*' for bullet list.

Internal Links - Links pointing to pages within the LEHI wiki are written as follows:

Packer, Asa
Founder of Lehigh

[[Packer, Asa]]
[[Packer, Asa|Founder of Lehigh]] - Note use of '|' symbol

External Links - Links pointing to webpages outside the LEHI wiki are written as follows:

http://www.lehigh.edu/engineering
Lehigh Engineering

http://www.lehigh.edu/engineering
[http://www.lehigh.edu/engineering Lehigh Engineering]

Infobox - To add an Infobox (the sidebar in the upper right hand corner with a picture and biography information), use the following code in the editing window below:

{{Infobox_faculty
|faculty_name      = ENTER ENGINEER NAME
|image             = ENTER FILE.JPG NAME
|caption           = ENTER IMAGE CAPTION
|birth = ENTER DATE OF BIRTH
|birthplace        = ENTER HOMETOWN
|died = ENTER DATE OF DEATH
|degree            = ENTER DEGREE
|graduation        = ENTER GRADUATION DATE
|achievement       = ENTER ACHIEVEMENT SUMMARY
}}

Other useful infobox templates include "Infobox_alum" and "Infobox_alum_alive".

Photo Gallery - If you have photos or know that they are available, you may choose to add a photo gallery. To do so, simply use the code below, adding as many images as necessary.

<center>
<gallery>
Image:F1546liacocca_resize.jpg|Iacocca with Ford Thunderbirds
Image:F7818liacocca_resize.jpg|Iacocca speaking at Lehigh
</gallery>
</center>

Write the image file name next to "Image:" followed by a caption and separated by a vertical line ("|").

Uploading Images and Photos

Images and photos can make wonderful additions to your biographic entry. Uploading files is easy. LEHI administrators recommend that new users stick to the format of placing photos in an entry's "Photo Gallery" or "Infobox." There are two ways to get an image into your entry:

(1) - When editing code for the "Photo Gallery" section, type the name of the file you wish to upload next to "Image:" as shown above. After you save the page, a gray box with a missing image will appear. Click on the missing image and you will be redirected to a page titled "Image:<your file name here>". The line below will read "No file by this name exists, you can upload it." Click on "upload it" to be taken to the "Upload file" page. Click the "Browse" button next to the "source filename" box and use the popup window to search for your file on your computer. Once found, click "Open" on the popup window and then click "Upload file." Now your image will be displayed on the screen. Enter copyright information if necessary by clicking the "edit" tab at the top. Click the link at the bottom of the page to return to your biographic entry. Add as many photos to the gallery as you want!

(2) - When editing code for the "Infobox," type the name of the file you wish to upload next to "|image =" in the edit window. After you save the page, the link to the image will appear in the center of the infobox in red font. Click on this link. You will be redirected to a page titled "Image:<your file name here>" as explained in (1). Follow directions provided in (1) to finish uploading your image.

**IMPORTANT NOTE: LEHI administrators recommend you use .JPG or .JPEG formatted files only. Make sure your "Source filename" matches the name you give to your file in your entry!**

Page History

A "history" tab is provided with each article entry on the LEHI site. Changes made to the article's appearance or content are viewable by clicking on the "(cur)" and "(last)" links to the left of the date on which a change was made. Clicking the date itself will link the user to the version of the article that existed BEFORE the change was made on that date. To the right of the date is the user name or IP address of the individual who edited the article. Clicking on this will link you to a page that lists the user's history of article edits. To the right of the editor's name is "(Talk | contribs | block)." Click on "Talk" to make comments on the editor's changes or anything else you care to address regarding his/her edit history. Click "contribs" to view the editor's history of contribtions/changes to LEHI. Click "block" if you believe the editor is making irresponsible or wreckless changes to articles. You will be linked to a page for filling out a form that requires you to justify your reasons for blocking this individual.

The "Compare selected versions" button corresponds with the radio buttons between "(last)" and the date of the listed change. To compare two versions of an article from different dates, select the radio buttons next to each version you wish to compare. Then click "Compare selected versions." You will be transferred to a page that highlights aricle lines that differ between the older and newer versions.
