Carville Benson attended Lehigh until 1890, after which he attended the school of law at Baltimore University. After practicing law in Baltimore, MD Benson served as member of the State house of representatives 1904-1910 and again in 1918, serving as speaker in 1906 and member of the State senate 1912-1914. Following his well-established career in politics, Benson was appointed State insurance commissioner of Maryland in 1924 and served until his death in 1929.
